How to design your own garden

Have you ever dreamed of your own designer garden? Do you watch the professionals on TV and wish you had the confidence to visualise beautiful borders and perfect pergolas? Then this could be the course for you. Our designer, Katrina, has extensive experience of creating desirable and functional spaces in a range of styles, from tiny courtyard gardens to the grounds of large country estates.

The course includes:

  • A brief history of gardens and garden design.
  • Using moodboards to develop the style of your garden.
  • How to survey your plot, from measuring to identifying aspect.
  • How to draw your survey to scale by hand (or using CAD – see additional training).
  • Focal points, fences and structures.
  • Identifying plants suitable for your plot and producing a planting plan
  • Using garden furniture, water features, planters and lighting to add detail
  • Translating your design to a 3D visual. The course brings in experts in each field to guide you through every step of the process.

For: Complete beginners or anyone who wants to broaden their gardening knowledge

What you get: Your own unique scale garden plan.  Refreshments provided.

  • Scale ruler (1:100)
  • Pack of drawing pens (varying weights – 0.1 – 0.8)
  • Set square (32cm – 60/30 degree)
  • Compass
  • Scalpel
  • Pencil (propelling or pencil with sharpener)
  • Soft eraser
  • Laptop or tablet
  • Extra long tape measure (30m)
  • Notebook and pen
